Overview

Brief introduction to the game

  1. Size of teams, number of boules:- You can play the game with two teams of one, two or three players on each side. With teams of one or two, each player has 3 boules; with teams of three, each has 2 boules.
  2. Throwing place:- Toss a coin to see which team plays first. Any player in this team chooses where to draw or place a circle on the ground from which each player will throw their boules. The circle should be 0.5m in diameter and at least 1m from any obstacle or boundary.
  3. Throwing the cochonnet/jack:- The cochonnet is thrown to a distance of between 6m and 10m from the circle. It must not be closer than 0.5m from the edge and 1m from the end boundary.
  4. The first boule:- Any player from the first team throws the first boule, trying to get it as close to the cochonnet as possible. Both feet must be on the ground within the circle until the boule has landed.
  5. The second team:- A player from the second team throws from the circle, trying to get their boule closer to the cochonnet or to knock the opponent's boule away. The boule nearest the cochonnet "holds the point".
  6. The next player:- It is then the turn of the team not "holding the point". They continue to play until they succeed in getting a boule closest to the cochonnet or run out of boules. If a team runs out of boules, the other team continue until all boules are thrown.
  7. Scoring. When all boules are thrown, the winning team scores one point for each boule that is closer to the cochonnet than their opponents' closest boule. The winning team then throw the cochonnet and first boule for the next 'end'. The first team to get 13 points win the game.
